Ultherapy is a new, non-invasive tissue lifting procedure designed to tighten the skin and deeper soft tissues of the face and neck for a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance. A less invasive alternative to the traditional facelift, Ultherapy is ideal for individuals between the ages of 35 and 65 who have mild to moderate skin laxity yet are not ready for surgery. Ultherapy uses ultrasound energy which heats the deep tissues, treating skin laxity from the inside out by triggering the production of new, fresh collagen.
Ultherapy is unlike any other non-surgical skin tightening procedure because it is able to target the SMAS, the deep layer of tissues that is normally addressed only during a surgical facelift. Using ultrasound energy, Ultherapy can produce a firmer, tighter skin appearance in the face, neck and other areas. Ultherapy can be used to treat sagging eyelid skin, lax or loose skin of the cheeks, poor definition in the jawline, jowls, marionette lines and folds, a downturned mouth, and folds between the nose and mouth. Ultherapy can lift the brow for a more "open" and refreshed eye appearance, raise sagging cheek skin, reduce laxity under the chin and improve definition in the jaw line, and produce an overall firmer look and feel to the skin. All this can be completed in a simple, non-invasive office-based procedure that requires no anesthesia and no downtime.
During an Ultherapy procedure, Micro Focused Ultrasound energy is applied to the dermal layer and the deep fibro muscular support layer. The energy heats these layers, thus stimulating collagen renewal in order to rejuvenate the face. Patients will notice some immediate tightening after the procedure, though continued lifting and conditioning of the skin will gradually occur over time as new collagen regenerates.

Dr. Jonathan Pontell is proud to be one of the first in the area to offer the new Ultherapy treatment for lifting and toning loose, sagging skin without surgery. Dr. Pontell performs Ultherapy at the Aesthetic Facial Plastic Surgery Center in Media, Pennsylvania near Delaware and the Main Line suburbs of Philadelphia. This simple, office-based procedure takes just 45 minutes or so to treat the full face. Smaller areas will take less time. There is no need for anesthesia, though medication may be prescribed prior to treatment for the patient's comfort, and no incisions are made. During treatment, the Ulthera® device is applied to the target areas which may include the upper face and brows or the mid and lower face, including the cheeks and neck.
There is no downtime associated with Ultherapy. Patients may experience some mild redness but this typically resolves by the time the patient leaves the office. The skin may be sensitive to touch for a few days after treatment. Most of our Philadelphia Ultherapy patients are able to resume their normal routine immediately after treatment. After just one or two treatments, patients will enjoy a more lifted, refreshed facial appearance.
