Facial filler treatments and their benefits
Question:
I’m 43 and my face is starting to show some signs of wear and tear. I’m thinking that at this point I’d be a good candidate for filler treatment. However, there seem to be so many different options for fillers that it gets a little confusing. Are there certain fillers that you think are the best or most promising and what are they able to treat?
Answer:
My preference for facial fillers are the hyaluronic acid products- Restylane/Peralne and Juvederm/Juvederm Ultra Plus. I have been using these injectibles for many years and patients love them. They are very well tolerated. I have not seen any allergic reactions with these products. The most common areas treated are the nasolabial folds (smile lines), marionette lines (smile lines below the corners of the mouth), glabellar lines (vertical lines between the brows) and the lips to fill them out and help the vertical lines above the lip. I also use these fillers to help camouflage jowls and depressed scars. The results can last anywhere from 6 months to greater then a year. One must keep in mind, however that surgery may give a more effective, dramatic result that is often less expensive over time.
