MY DAUGHTER HAS EARS THAT STICK OUT TOO FAR
Question:
My daughter has ears that stick out too far. My husband and I have discussed taking her to get an otoplasty in Philadelphia, but I am afraid that going through the surgery and having pain will traumatize her. In your practice, have you found that young children can get through the surgery unscathed? My daughter is 9 years old.
Answer:
I have never had any children not go through Otoplasty surgery smoothly. There is some post-operative pain, but this is very short lived and the improvements last forever. The emotional pain from kids teasing kids with prominent ears can be very debilitating and can cause severe emotional scars. I am a strong believer in doing this surgery at 5 or 6 years of age to avoid the teasing, bullying and emotional scars
