REMOVING THE DARK CIRCLES UNDER MY EYES
I am 57 years old, male, and I don’t wear eyeglasses. I bring up the glasses because I have nothing to hide the dark circles under my eyes. I want to have eye surgery, but I am very concerned that the skin will remain a darkish color. Is this a problem with blepharoplasty? If so, what do you recommend I do to make this skin lighter after the surgery?
Dark circles under the eyes come from a couple of different causes. The majority of the darkness comes from a shadow caused by lower eyelid bags. When the excess fatty tissue that causes the bags is removed with a blepharoplasty, the shadow disappears. You can test this out in a mirror. If you smooth out your eyelid with a finger, you will see the shadow disappear. Some of the darkness can also be from excess pigment and this can be treated with bleaching creams.
