WHAT DETERMINES WHETHER IT WILL BE A CLOSED OR OPEN RHINOPLASTY?
I have several questions about cosmetic surgery. Can I choose whether to have local or general anesthesia for my nose job (I prefer local)? What determines whether it will be a closed or open rhinoplasty? How bad is the pain the next day after surgery?
Hi and thanks for your interest in rhinoplasty. Yes, you can choose between local anesthesia with intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. I do the vast majority of my noses open. The advantages in most cases are huge. The exposure is much better and this allows the surgeon to do much more sophisticated things with better outcomes, I belive. The post op pain is not bad. I give tylenol with codeine for the post op pain which is a gentle pain medication. This is more then enough in the vast majority of cases.
