Before & After Photos

Achieved With Facelift Surgery

Reduced Wrinkles

Fine lines and wrinkles in the cheeks, around the mouth, and in the neck will be significantly reduced with facelift surgery. Dr. Pontell tightens the underlying facial muscles along with the skin to produce a smooth, youthful appearance.

Elimination of Sagging Skin

Patients who have significant jowling and sagging skin in the face along with a very heavy neck can look up to ten years younger with the traditional facelift procedure. Many patients who have lesser degrees of facial aging can get the results they desire with a mini facelift.

Regained Confidence

Men and women who choose to enhance their appearance with a facelift often experience an incredible boost in confidence. They no longer have to hide their wrinkle-inducing facial expressions or use expensive creams to try to turn back the hands of time. Facelift surgery gives them a rejuvenated appearance they are proud to show off.

What Does a Facelift Entail?

Before the procedure, you will meet with Dr. Pontell to discuss your goals and concerns, and he will assess your face. He will examine your facial tissues to determine what changes are possible and how to best create the most aesthetically pleasing result. Dr. Pontell may use computer imaging to show you the changes that are possible and to help determine your surgical goal. Once he gains a thorough understanding of your concerns and goals, Dr. Pontell will give you more details about his recommendations for your procedure.

Dr. Pontell performs the traditional facelift and the mini facelift. The traditional facelift is performed under general anesthesia and addresses wrinkles, jowls, and sagging skin in the lower two-thirds of the face, the jawline, and the neck. It involves an incision that is hidden within the hairline at both temples that extends down the natural creases in front of the ear, inside the opening of the ear canal, and behind the ears, ending in the hairline behind the ears. The traditional facelift also utilizes a small incision under the chin to allow the loose muscles in the neck and excess fat to be addressed. The mini facelift is often performed under local anesthesia in the office and involves fewer incisions to address loose skin in the cheeks, jowls, and neck. The mini facelift is popular because it is a quicker, less invasive procedure with a shorter recovery time, and it can produce ideal results for the right patient.

+ Mini vs. Full Facelift

Patients should arrange for someone to drive them home after surgery and stay with them for at least the first day. Recovery time from facelift surgery is usually one to two weeks. Swelling may be apparent for several weeks. Patients may resume exercise after two weeks as long as they are careful not to turn their heads to either side forcefully. After six weeks, there are no restrictions.

Any scars that result from this procedure are well-hidden within the hairline and will significantly fade with time. You will be given specific instructions regarding how to minimize the appearance of scarring.

Although you will have some discomfort after surgery, most patients agree that the pain is minimal. Any pain that patients feel can be controlled with prescription medications or regular TYLENOL ®.

What if a Revision Facelift Is Necessary?

Dr. Pontell sees a significant number of patients who have had a facelift with another doctor and are not happy with the results. It is advisable to wait at least six months after the initial surgery to assess the final results. After this period, a revision can be done.

  • Will I still look like myself after facelift surgery?

A facelift will not make you look like a completely different person. The goal of facelift surgery is not to alter your appearance but to make you look like a younger version of yourself. Your unique facial characteristics will be what people notice instead of wrinkles and sagging skin. Even when patients need dramatic improvement, the people they interact with usually can’t determine what it is that makes them look so much younger.

  • How do I avoid the “pulled” look?

Old techniques for facelift surgery involved only tightening of the facial skin, which resulted in a tight, pulled, and very unnatural look. Dr. Pontell uses advanced techniques with his facelift procedure, which involve tightening the underlying facial muscles and tissues to provide the most natural-looking results.

  • How long will my facelift results last?

Patients who minimize sun exposure, maintain healthy habits, and do not smoke after surgery can maintain their facelift results for up to ten years. The facelift does not stop the aging process, and the skin can wrinkle and sag again over time. However, after several years, aging will not be as dramatic as it would have been without facelift surgery.

  • Will a facelift minimize the bags under my eyes?

Patients who are primarily concerned with under-eye bags are better candidates for blepharoplasty (eyelid lift surgery). Patients can combine a facelift with an eyelid lift and brow lift for a total facial makeover.

  • Can a facelift fix a double chin?

Excess skin on the jowls and neck are addressed during a traditional facelift. To remove excess fat in the area, Dr. Pontell can combine facelift surgery with a direct excision of the fatty tissue through an incision under the chin or liposuction.
