The Aesthetic Facial Plastic Surgery Center, Inc.
Many people are not comfortable with the shape, size, or alignment of their nose. For some, imperfections can cause feelings of self-consciousness and emotional distress. But there is a way to have the nose you've always wanted. Cosmetic nose surgery, or rhinoplasty, can improve the proportion and aesthetics of the nose by reshaping the underlying cartilage. Dr. Jonathan Pontell's cosmetic surgery offices in Philadelphia offers rhinoplasty patients the ability to change the shape and size of their nose and remove aesthetic flaws.
In addition to cosmetic reasons, some of Dr. Pontell's Philadelphia nose job patients undergo this procedure after serious trauma or an accident that necessitates facial reconstruction surgery. Depending on your specific goals, rhinoplasty can alter the shape and/or size of the bridge, tip, or nostrils, as well as increase or decrease the size of the entire nose. Our patients often find that, after rhinoplasty surgery, they feel a renewed sense of confidence about their appearance, and are proud of their new nose.
Before undergoing cosmetic nose surgery, patients first meet with talented rhinoplasty surgeon, Dr. Jonathan Pontell, at our Pennsylvania / South New Jersey plastic surgery offices. Rhinoplasty patients should be certain to discuss all their goals for the shape and size of their new nose and ask any questions about the procedure during this initial appointment. During the first consultation, Dr. Pontell will use digital computer imaging to demonstrate how the nose may appear after surgery, so that patients can feel confident that they share their aesthetic goals with Dr. Pontell.
During the pre-surgical consultation, Dr. Pontell will also explain some of the risks of rhinoplasty. Although the occurrence of complications is rare, Philadelphia nose surgery patients should fully understand the potential risks of plastic surgery before undergoing any kind of surgical procedure. Some of the risks include bleeding, a negative reaction to anesthesia, infection, broken blood vessels on the skin's surface, scarring, or over- or under-correction.

The rhinoplasty procedure involves cartilage and/or bone reshaping from the nose, or adding an artificial implant to create a new nose shape. Dr. Pontell usually performs open, as opposed to closed, rhinoplasty. This procedure involves making a tiny incision across the bridge of skin (columella) that separates the nostrils. This allows the skin to be lifted from the tip of the nose, and the doctor to reshape the cartilage with precision before replacing the skin. This type of surgery may leave a tiny scar across the columella, but incisions generally heal nicely, and any scarring is almost invisible after a few months. After the rhinoplasty surgery is complete, incisions in the patient's nose are closed with stitches. Dr. Pontell applies a splint to protect the cartilage and the new nose structure. After one week, the rhinoplasty patient returns to our office to have the splint and stitches removed.
Although the final shape and size of your nose will not be immediately apparent after surgery, over the course of the next weeks, the nose will continue to heal and the swelling will go down.
