Bulbous Tip Rhinoplasty
The nose may look disproportionate when the nasal tip is too broad in relation to the nasal bridge. Our facial plastic surgeons offer bulbous tip rhinoplasty for patients with an enlarged or poorly-defined nasal tip, also called a bulbous nose.

Refining a Bulbous Nose
A bulbous nose is generally caused by cartilage that is too wide, spaced too far apart, or too flexible, causing a wide appearance and lack of definition. In other cases, a bulbous tip can be caused by thick nasal tip skin. This type of rhinoplasty effectively addresses these concerns.

What Is Bulbous Tip Rhinoplasty?
Bulbous nose surgery is a rhinoplasty procedure that reshapes and refines a bulbous, wide, or rounded nasal tip. The procedure achieves a defined nose that compliments the facial features and achieves a more proportionate, balanced appearance. Our doctors use various techniques to correct a bulbous nose, depending on each patient’s unique needs and nasal structure.
Benefits of Bulbous Tip Rhinoplasty
Bulbous tip rhinoplasty helps patients who have always been unhappy with the appearance of their nose achieve a smaller, more proportionate nasal tip. Benefits include the following:
- Better harmony of the facial features
- Surgical plan customized to your precise needs
- Smaller and more balanced nasal tip
- Shorter recovery period – less than two weeks
- More refined and sculpted nose
- Improved self-confidence
What Happens During the Procedure?
Excess cartilage, fat, and muscle are generally reduced or sculpted to achieve more definition and refinement. Cartilage grafts may also be needed to help shape the tip. Our doctor may use suturing techniques to create a sharper, more defined nasal tip. In some cases, the cause of a bulbous nose is thick nasal skin. In this case, he may thin the skin with dermabrasion or a laser peel, shrinking the skin cover and narrowing the tip.
What Is the Recovery Time After Bulbous Tip Rhinoplasty?
Expect about a week to 10 days to recover. During this time, you will experience bruising and swelling. A cast will protect your nose for the first week after the procedure. Bruising mostly fades by this point.
While you’ll feel recovered and your nose will appear much more refined, there will still be some swelling, not generally noticeable to others. Over the following year, all residual swelling will subside, and you will see the final results of your new nose.
