Lip Augmentation Techniques

Dermal Fillers

Restylane® and JUVÉDERM® are soft injectable tissue fillers made of hyaluronic acid, which can be found naturally in the body. These fillers are deemed safe and effective for lip augmentation, posing little to no risk of allergic reaction in people sensitive to animal by-products. 

The procedure takes between 15 and 30 minutes and entails several injections along the lip area. These products can also target facial wrinkles and lines around the eyes, mouth, or forehead.

Subnasal Lip Lift

The subnasal lip lift involves the surgical removal of a strip of skin from the crease between the upper lip and the base of the nose. Removing this piece of skin and closing the incision lifts the upper lip and makes it appear fuller. 

By shortening the distance between the nose and the upper lip, the subnasal lip lift enhances the lip shape, improves the smile, and balances the proportion of the lips. The procedure can also be combined with volumizing fillers to restore volume and revitalize the lip contours.

Vermillion Lip Advancement

Vermillion lip advancement uses a surgical technique designed to increase the size of the pink part of the lip (the “vermillion”). The vermillion border refers to the line along the colored portion of the lips connecting the lips to the surrounding tissues. 

An incision is made along the outside border of the lips. A small portion of skin is removed from above the upper vermillion border or below the lower vermillion border. The lip is then pulled and sutured to the remaining skin to make the lips appear more prominent.
