What is Botox®?
BOTOX® is the first FDA-approved treatment to reduce frown lines, crow's feet, and forehead lines. To help you look young again with less noticeable facial lines. It is a quick treatment with minimal downtime.
After many years of frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows can cause the skin to furrow and fold, slowly resulting in facial lines. BOTOX® Cosmetic works beneath the surface and temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines in adults – to help them look visibly smoother.

- Have no history of neuromuscular diseases
- Are physically healthy
- Are not pregnant
- Are 18 years old or older
- Would like to reduce wrinkles and lines on your face
What can I expect from my BOTOX® recovery?
BOTOX is typically quick and painless and comes with little to no downtime. Sessions take around 10-20 minutes to perform, and there is no preparation of any kind required. Because there is no anesthesia used, BOTOX injections don’t make you sluggish or woozy. You’ll be able to drive yourself home without accompaniment. You can even return to work or school the same day.
After BOTOX, some patients may experience minor swelling, bruising, and tenderness at the site of their injections. Tingling, numbness, and a tight feeling in the skin may also temporarily occur. These side effects rarely last longer than a few hours, and most clients don’t find them severe enough to interfere with their busy, active lifestyles.
There are a few activities that you should avoid for about 48 hours after your BOTOX session in order to prevent product migration and/or irritation. Try not to touch, rub, scratch, or otherwise disturb your face. Don’t lie down or bend over for 4-6 hours after BOTOX, as this can exacerbate any swelling. Abstain from vigorous activities like aerobics and weight-lifting for the first 24 hours. It’s also important that you avoid blood-thinners such as Advil, Motrin, and Aleve for a couple of days. Smoking as well is a no-no.

What Does BOTOX do to Rejuvenate the Skin?
BOTOX injections rejuvenate the skin, helping to reduce wrinkles, mild creases, and fine lines. The serum used in BOTOX injections is made from a neurotoxin, Botulinum Toxin A. The neurotoxin works by reducing activity in the muscles of the treatment area, allowing them to relax. The serum also blocks messages along the nerves that go to and from the brain. BOTOX injections work at the nerve endings that cause the underlying muscle contraction and block the release of acetylcholine and, as a result, the contraction weakens or stops, creating a relaxation of areas that are creased by excess muscle activity. As the muscles relax, the skin, smooths out the wrinkles and lines, giving the skin a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.
How Long Does a BOTOX Treatment Last?
BOTOX injections normally last for three to four months. The length of the treatment will depend on several factors. The original tone of the skin prior to the treatment is a huge factor in what type of results the patient receives. Another factor is the length of time between treatments. Scheduling the next BOTOX injection prior to the effects of the previous treatment starting to wear off will ensure the patient maintains the same degree of skin tone between treatment sessions.
Do BOTOX Injections Cause Side Effects?
BOTOX injections can cause minimal side effects. The most common side effects attributed to BOTOX injections include inflammation and bruising in and around the treatment area. The injection sites may feel warm and be tender to the touch for the first few hours. After the initial side effects begin to disappear, tenderness throughout the treatment area may be felt. Any feelings of firmness or rigidity should begin to dissipate after the first few days. The initial inflammation and bruising that occurred immediately after the procedures should only last two or three days.
What is the difference between BOTOX and dermal fillers?
BOTOX is a neuromodulator engineered to combat dynamic lines that form as a result of repetitive everyday muscle movements, such as squinting, smiling, frowning, or laughing. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, are designed to address static wrinkles and folds that form over time as a result of the aging process. The two treatments are often used in tandem to provide a comprehensive and personalized anti-aging solution.
